Commercial Description:
Red Oak is a Munich Urtyp (old style) lager. We begin the brewing process with custom kilned imported Munich malt. Red Oak is then is the hopped with Spalt Noble hops imported from Bavaria, the oldest hop growing region in the world. Before fermentation we add a yeast strain from Weihenstehpen, the oldest brewery in the world, founded before 1040 AD. Weeks of aging gives Red Oak the smooth taste its known for.

Draft. Pours a dark reddish brown color. The Aroma is a nice malt one, with notes of sweetness to it. Flavor is actually a lot more refreshing than the ratings would indicate. I’d take this over other macros any day if I was in Greensboro.

Draft. Dark red/brown, small head. Malty, grainy nose. There’s a nice malt flavor mixed with some extra sweetness...honey, caramel. A little hop bitterness tries to balance things, but it’s still pretty malt-heavy. Easy drinking, not toooo boring, but not much going on here. Better than macros for a nice change of pace at a bar.

Had this on tap at the Charlotte Airport (2007). Dark brown, chewy, a little sweet and tinny. A little chewy as well.

Draft. Hazy brownish red with a dense off white head. Odd, grainy nose and flavor... weird. Some light honey and an almost wheatlike note - what IS this? Did someone slip me a sorghum beer? Some mild toasted notes. I’m not sure, style-wise, but overall I call it not too good. Weak and odd. Finish is too weak to kill a pretzel I ate.

On tap at a hotel by the brewery. Not bad, but nothing to bring me back to NC for. Amber color. A little sweet. OK

On tap at Sportstime. An amber color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. Has a sweet cheap malt nose. The taste is a little bit like a malty fig with some caramel undertones. Way too sweet for my general liking. Not as much too sweet, but too much sucrose sweetness, without anything to match it with. Medium body with no real lasting flavor. Very pedestrian.

Cloudy copper, nice dense beige head. Decent aroma of rye and toast, and flavor si clean crisp, with bready, toasty notes. Finishes with a subtle hop bite. Better than my description suggests. On tap, Flying Saucer, Raleigh.

Light brown, amber in color with a medium head. Had it on tap and left lots of lace. I wasn’t a big fan of this - light bodied and it had a sour, bitter taste to it. Not all that smooth, but beats a lot of other crap that was on tap (Bud, Michelob, etc.)"
