Commercial Description:
Red Oak is a Munich Urtyp (old style) lager. We begin the brewing process with custom kilned imported Munich malt. Red Oak is then is the hopped with Spalt Noble hops imported from Bavaria, the oldest hop growing region in the world. Before fermentation we add a yeast strain from Weihenstehpen, the oldest brewery in the world, founded before 1040 AD. Weeks of aging gives Red Oak the smooth taste its known for.

On tap. Although this was served just about as cold as ice (boo) it did have a smooth quality even after it warmed. Smell of cereal adjuncts.

On tap at a bar, lightly sweet taste and aroma, some caramel. Hazy orange with a dissipating white head. Definitely worth a try.

(draft from a 10.4 liter mini-keg) Clear dark amber body with off-white head. Aroma is mild, medium sweet, caramel, biscuit. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, light toast, faint lager-yeast lemon. Light body.

Tap at Charlotte airport. Faintly yeasty nose, medium hazy amber. Medium body, yeast oreiented flavor. Light biscuit malt, bitter hops, light fruit flavor. More like a random bitter as opposed to any type of lager. Not bad.

Had it on tap at Verde, a restaurant in Durham, NC. Not much aroma at all. Hazy amber/orange color is appealing. Head had dissipated by the time it arrived. Flowery hop flavor with a hint of figs maybe. Minimal hop bitterness. Average carbonation. Decent beer.

On tap at Capital City Chop House, Raleigh: poured reddish orange/brown with a small head. Mild earthy, malt aroma. Small on the hops and earthy flavor. Decent beer but nothing special.

Pours dark amber. Malty aroma with some toffee and fruit. Tastes full bodied, complex, with caramel malt, toffee, and even some oak and berry hints. Decent.
