Commercial Description:
Red Oak is a Munich Urtyp (old style) lager. We begin the brewing process with custom kilned imported Munich malt. Red Oak is then is the hopped with Spalt Noble hops imported from Bavaria, the oldest hop growing region in the world. Before fermentation we add a yeast strain from Weihenstehpen, the oldest brewery in the world, founded before 1040 AD. Weeks of aging gives Red Oak the smooth taste its known for.

Tried this beer on a whim. I didn’t even realize it was local. Medium orange color. Not particularly memorable, small head, very little lacing. It was on tap at the Outback Steakhosue in Durham. This beer went well with my shrimp and chips.

The nose and flavor smacks of extract brewing. I can’t believe its not. Sickly sweet maltiness tastes more like beery syrup than beer. On the good side, it looks good, with a deep brown color and decent off-white head. A slightly grainy mouthfeel in the finish ends things up.

Ehhh...certainly not your average bottled Vienna like Dos Equis amber or something like this. The malt profile this brewery always attains is much too complex for that. Just not a whole lot going on. Slightly toasted tasting but this dies out into a subtle dryness that goes nowhere and leaves you wanting more of the cracked rye character all of their beers have. Just mediocre. G-rat

Reddish colored lager with a nutty aroma. Taste was not the greatest and the after taste reminded me of soured milk.

Not a bad lager. Kind of a wood taste to it. Try it ouy if you’re at the airport in Charlotte.

Draught. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly yeasty (dough). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Sour viennas aren't my bag.

I live near the brewery/pub, I always enjoy and Red Oak and their Drunk'n Chicken. Nice taste lite nut, woody and smooth, not too heavy, good taste on its own as well. I personally enjoy it, but it is my local beer. Don't buy it anywhere else then the corner of Guilford college and friendly. Try the Drunk'n Chicken with the beer.

On tap at the RDU airport: Copper hued with a small fizzy head and good lace. The aroma hints of nuts, roasted malts, buttery biscuit, vegetables, minerals, and zesty yeast esters. The taste starts twangy and citric with grassy and grainy tones. A butterscotch like finish and a touch of DMS. Blah, very ordinary beer at best, but hey, for Airport offerings, you could do worse.
