Commercial Description:
Red Oak is a Munich Urtyp (old style) lager. We begin the brewing process with custom kilned imported Munich malt. Red Oak is then is the hopped with Spalt Noble hops imported from Bavaria, the oldest hop growing region in the world. Before fermentation we add a yeast strain from Weihenstehpen, the oldest brewery in the world, founded before 1040 AD. Weeks of aging gives Red Oak the smooth taste its known for.

Slightly hazy amber colour. Thin head. Malty, caramelly nose is fairly straightforward. Lightly toasty accent to a largely caramelly palate. Clean but simple.

Tap: This poured an orange/amber body with a slender white head and a bit more carbonation than is typical for a Märzen. The aroma’s a bit light, toasted bread, lightly honeyed with a hint of fresh red apples. It’s got somewhat of a spritzy mouthfeel, but that also perks up the flavor, which is a mirror of the nose. The finish is slightly watery and tastes of sweet malt. Not too bad.

Pours dark amber. Malty aroma with some toffee and fruit. Tastes full bodied, complex, with caramel malt, toffee, and even some oak and berry hints. Decent.

Draught. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly yeasty (dough). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Sour viennas aren't my bag.

On tap at the RDU airport: Copper hued with a small fizzy head and good lace. The aroma hints of nuts, roasted malts, buttery biscuit, vegetables, minerals, and zesty yeast esters. The taste starts twangy and citric with grassy and grainy tones. A butterscotch like finish and a touch of DMS. Blah, very ordinary beer at best, but hey, for Airport offerings, you could do worse.
