Butters (733), Temporarily in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 6, 2008 Initial impression is like a milk stout. Pours a very dark brown w/ good light brown head and good lacing. Aroma of chocolate and caramel malt. Lingering chocolate bitterness. Pretty average. Leaves a not-so-nice aftertaste.
brewski519 (85), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Dec 24, 2008 On tap this beer pours a dark chestnut with a decent creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, malts and hops. The taste is the same with the chocolate being the big one to come through. Not a bad beer - I enjoy this one much more than Red Oaks lager offering. chandler0201 (153), Durham, North Carolina, USA Nov 30, 2008 Dark brown/black pour with really no head. Roasty aroma of coffee/toffee. Flavor of some coffee and caramel. Bitter finish. durhambeer (701), Durham, USA Sep 22, 2008 Draft from Carolina Theatre in Durham. Dark brown pour with almost no head. Roasty, almost burnt aroma. Burnt sugar, caramel, molasses, malt, and not much else. A little metallic flavor. Better as it warms. Very thin palate. Suttree (2433), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 25, 2008 Dark brown almost no head. Nice aroma of coffee, pumpernickel bread, and molasses. Flavor is prtyy much the same players. Surprisingly full bodied. Pretty tasty. arventresca (203), Greenville, North Carolina, USA Aug 9, 2008 Growler. Pours black with tan head. Smell of chocolate. Good beer. Smooth and creamy.
