Initial impression is like a milk stout. Pours a very dark brown w/ good light brown head and good lacing. Aroma of chocolate and caramel malt. Lingering chocolate bitterness. Pretty average. Leaves a not-so-nice aftertaste.

On tap this beer pours a dark chestnut with a decent creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, malts and hops. The taste is the same with the chocolate being the big one to come through. Not a bad beer - I enjoy this one much more than Red Oaks lager offering.

Dark brown/black pour with really no head. Roasty aroma of coffee/toffee. Flavor of some coffee and caramel. Bitter finish.

Draft from Carolina Theatre in Durham. Dark brown pour with almost no head. Roasty, almost burnt aroma. Burnt sugar, caramel, molasses, malt, and not much else. A little metallic flavor. Better as it warms. Very thin palate.
