Initial impression is like a milk stout. Pours a very dark brown w/ good light brown head and good lacing. Aroma of chocolate and caramel malt. Lingering chocolate bitterness. Pretty average. Leaves a not-so-nice aftertaste.

Reminds of a Schwarzbier a little. I liked it better 2 years ago, something in the recipe has changed. Black pour, white head. Very smooth and drinkable. Dark chocolate, malt/molasses all very subtle, nothing jumps out. Could preobably drink quite a few of these. When I was in Germany, most of the beers were pretty tame, so all and all, this is not bad and representative of what I had there.

On tap at Fox and Hound in Winston-Salem. Great dark color with a smaller head than I expected. Good taste and balance, but a little watery for my taste.

Draft. Pitch black with a light tan head. Some big bubbles float around inside. Smells like coffee and chocolate. Tastes very much light a sweet stout with chocolate, caramel, and roasted nutty flavors. Something seemed a bit unbalanced with the sweetness starting off strong, then an unexpected sourness on the finsih. Still, this one was far more interesting and tastier than I expected. A very easy drinking dark beer.

On tap at the Durham WBF. Clear, dark brown with a small tan head. Earthy nose, rich caramel, some light nuttiness. Rich, sweet caramel flavor is offset well by the earthy bitterness. Nice!

Draught at Moondog, CLT, NC Black pour, decent head. Thick grapy aroma and flavor, similar to Dimetapp, but a good Dimetapp. Kinda barley wine-ish.
