A near perfect example of a black bavarian. 2nd only to Sprecher!! Red oak makes many good beers. They even import thier water from germany Im told. However they now have changed the style to a bock....Yet to try it.

Sampled at Brewgrass 2007. Pours a clear very dark chestnut color (almost black). Mostly clean aroma, a little nuttiness. Agreeable on the palate. Clean taste with some light nuttiness on the back end. Decent, just not real flavorful.

Pours a dark brown, with a small off white head. Smells of caramel malts, dark fruits, and mild roast. The flavor is quite balanced, some sweet maltiness to it, mixed in with some dark fruit and caramel. Not an overly complex dunkel, but still had all the typical features of one. A little sticky sweet aftertaste. Very drinkable, but nothing too exciting or intriguing here. Not bad.

Summertime Brewsfest. Dark brown, slightly transparent. Medium light tan head. Grainy cereal aroma and flavor. Not too impressive.

on tap-pours a diminishing light tan head and black color. Aroma is dark malt. Taste is dark malt-chocolate, roasty/nutty. Secondary hops bitterness. OK carbonation.

Had at the brewery... Not bad for a Lager. I think my low expectations made it a little more pleasing. Body was a little thin for my liking, but the taste wasn’t bad. Nice lacing... had a decent amount of malt, very low hops, all in all a beer worth tasting...
