I can not get enough of this beer. Dark roasted taste. Several flavors come alive while consuming a pint of BB. VERY fresh tasting. skippapotamus (29), USA

Pours opaque black, slight head dissipates quickly. Various roast caramel, coffee, chocolate notes, very slightly and delicately hopped. Like most Bavarians, the malt does the work. oldpainless (35), fort mill, South Carolina, USA

Red oak makes many good beers. They even import thier water from germany Im told.
However they now have changed the style to a bock....Yet to try it. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Draft. Pitch black with a light tan head. Some big bubbles float around inside. Smells like coffee and chocolate. Tastes very much light a sweet stout with chocolate, caramel, and roasted nutty flavors. Something seemed a bit unbalanced with the sweetness starting off strong, then an unexpected sourness on the finsih. Still, this one was far more interesting and tastier than I expected. A very easy drinking dark beer. Suttree (2740), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Flavor is prtyy much the same players. Surprisingly full bodied. Pretty tasty. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Draft at Carolina Ale House. Dark brown pour with aroma of malt, big chocoff. Yes, chocolate is present in the aroma and big in the taste here, with a complex, smooth finish. Red Oak beers are greatly under-rated on this site. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Earthy nose, rich caramel, some light nuttiness. Rich, sweet caramel flavor is offset well by the earthy bitterness. Nice! tarheels86 (799), Washington DC, USA

Big milk chocolate, toffee, and roasted malt nose. Taste adds some coffee and caramel malt. Creamy and smooth with chocolate and roasted notes. Not bad at all. I agree- could be a Schwarzbier.
