Commercial Description:
Hummingbird is a light lager or Hell (Helles) similar to those found throughout Bavaria. We use carefully selected Pilsner malt... then it is delicately hopped with imported Tettnang noble hops. Then we add a proprietary lager yeast strain which is not filtered out. Hummin’ Bird is slow cold aged for over one month resulting in a lush mouth feel.

Draught at Down Under Pub in Durham, NC. Slightly hazy, golden color with thin white head. Grainy, slightly hoppy aroma with nice grainy flavor and aftertaste.

Not a big pils. fan here by I have to rate it according to the style. Yellow in color...did I say Yellow? Thin in body Good pizza beer bitter when it hits the palate but fades fast. Still better than miller, bud or any other mass produced BS!

Beer #2 for me at the WBF in Durham. Was pleasantly surprised by the honeysuckle that I tasted in this beer. Other than that taste novelty, this beer scored pretty low for me overall.

Sample at the Blues n Brews fest. Pours a standard pale gold with a one finger white head. The nose is grassy, hay, bready, earthy, definitely lagered. Taste is slightly crisp, bready, earthy, hay, grassy. Watery mouthfeel, lightly crisp. no finish.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours a hazy lemon yellow color. Large head, good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, grass, caramel and nuts. Taste is bitter grassy hops, bread and light citrus notes. Thin bodied and watery. Called a "helles" by the brewery.

Umm, there’s no reason to drink this beer. It’s crisp and refreshing but no different than MGD.

From notes 3/4/03: A hazy orange 96 calorie light lager. Presented with a fluffy white head that laced just a little. A malty aroma with a touch of sourness to it. The taste profile included a crisp bubbly carbonation on the tongue. Virtually no hop presence at all with this lager. There is also a hint of sourness in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel was surprisingly more full than I anticipated. For a "light" beer this one had some character. This is a rather refreshing thirst-quenching offering from the folks at Red Oak. Draught-only as all their beers are unfiltered, unpasteurized.
