imdownthepub (4312), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Sep 25, 2008 Bottle conditioned, 500ml from Happy Apple, Totnes, Devon. Chestnut brown with no head, very flat. Unfortunate sour malty notes right from the off, sharp, tea like flavours with wet newspaper and fungal notes. Really a bit of a struggle to drink, quite off.
DruncanVeasey (1916), No. 46, Leicestershire, England Sep 14, 2008 Pours tawny brown with a slight haze and a heaped white head persisting solidly until the end- seriously impressive from the bottle. Nose inviting chocolate malt, hazelnut creaminess, sourish yeast, berry fruit, blackcurrant and musty hops. Flavour not quite up to the same standard- becomes a bit generic yeasty/acidic English bottled bitter probably bearing little resemblance to its cask counterpart. Plenty of caramel, malt nuttiness, chocolate and dankness. Mushroom and beansprout, but somehow they don’t detract from the combination of flavours. An enjoyable, fine-smelling, well conditioned bottled bitter. Actually, sod the nit-picking, I really liked this. shrubber85 (2598), COB Speicher, Iraq Mar 24, 2008 Bottle. Berry, apple and hay hops aroma. Slightly hazy read amber color with moderate head. Slightly sweet berry-apple flavor followed by a dry grass hops finish. Good. SilkTork (3960), Rochester, Kent, England Apr 13, 2007 500ml bottle from a Torquay supermarket. Crystal malt. Damp leaves and a hint of chocolate. Mushroom mould. Dry, slightly tannic with the sharp bite of a British bottle conditioned beer. Drinkable but predictable and unimpressive. A decent enough homebrew. bluekuma (94), London, Greater London, England Nov 30, 2006 Bottle conditioned. Pours a cloudy orange/brown with no head & little carbonation. Chocolatey aroma.Almost still on the palate. Pleasant enough drinking; some roasty hints and nice grassy hop notes which meld quite nicely.
