Commercial Description:
Medium body, moderate bitterness, copper color, made with 34% malted rye. A rarity at brew pubs, this fabled 'rye' beer is credited with being one of the oldest recipes in existence. Brewed with crystal malt and both Chinook and Hallertau hops, this copper-colored brew offers a complex range of contrasting flavors.

(08/2006. Draft). A rye beer, almost certainly lagered/cold-conditioned before release -- something for which ratebeer apparently doesn’t have a category (what’s up with that???)!! Surprised that no one else has rated it yet (it did win silver at the 2006 World Beer Cup after all). Sweet and inviting, malty aromas up front. Clear, honey orange with medium, white head. Very clean tasting with a bitter back-end that lingers nicely on the palate. Medium carbonation and a medium-light body. Very, very tasty. Very, very drinkable. Nice job, guys.

On tap at Red Rock. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. The aroma is full of sweet grains, honey and some light malts. The flavor was quite nice; lots of toasted malts and a heavy rye aspect, some honey and other sweet notes and a light bitter finish of hops. Quite tasty and easy to drink. Another nice one from Red Rock.

12-Jul-08 (22-oz bottle with a competition label only: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) A 4% ABV beer out of Utah doesn’t trigger much anticipation in me, but this offering from Red Rock is a nice surprise and proves that an open mind is absolutely necessary with every beer we try. The highly malty nose offers a pleasant graininess, but also a hint of huskiness and a modest, cheesy character that blows off after several minutes, leaving the aroma of grain and husks to represent the beer. Despite the technical issues, the aroma is still pleasant enough to encourage a sip. On the palate, the grainy malt flavor has a spent grain accent, especially in the finish. The maltiness is perfectly balanced by mildly bitter, classically flavored hops and a pleasant, zesty spiciness. Good body, medium in weight, moderate carbonation, with zing from the medium hop bitterness to create a round mouthfeel and lively, refreshing beer on the palate. Hazy, golden-yellow body is capped by half an inch of off-white head that settles to a thin, broken layer. Some spots and strings of lace remain on the glass. Given that this is a 4% brew, the brewer deserves accolades for creating such a flavorful beer with well-proportioned body and zingy mouthfeel. Take away the husky character of the nose and flavor and you’re looking at a really nice rye beer.

This beer reminds me of hot necking at the movies. I had the priv. to try this beverage a few weeks ago at the pub. Let me tell you, the excitement was all at this side fo the table! Extra large please, this pint was served with a copper color and a ravenous head. Im turned on. As the nectar poured onto the palet, butterscotch tones and oil like tones blanketed my tongue. Cover me in this beer, because I wanna wear it!!!!!

On tap; best of a pretty porous selection of beer. Had some rye/bready flavors with some citrus and floral. Some honey and sweetness. Hop ending was pretty good.
