Cream coloured head. Some roast aroma. Black fruity and strong in alcohol with a crisp and bitter coffee roast finish. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Dec 6, 2007 GABF. Chocolate and coffee on the aromas. More on the flavor, but much more subtle. Some hopps on the finish. little bit of alcohol in there too. Decent Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2007 tap. nice looking pitch black. the aroma alerted me early that this might have something in it that i wouldn’t like. smelled like a chocolate popsicle that had aloe vera on it flavor at first was o.k. sweet milky hersheys like sweetness with an blurry hop taste. unfortunately this flavor came into focus. ended up way too herbal & minty for me. the beer was drinkable & far from being bad, just not something i’m into.
4 3 5 2 11 goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Nov 2, 2007 Tap @ Redfish: Poured black with a tan head. The aroma was roasty, sweet and malty. Some notes of dark chocolate and alcohol. The alcohol aroma borders on being too much. The flavor is fairly sweet and lightly roasted. Not much in the way of coffee or chocolate. Almost full bodied and sticky. Some warmth. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 27, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 10/14/07: Pours an opaque oily black with a rich dark tan/light brown, spotty-lacing head. Aroma of sweet complex dark caramel and chocolate with a touch of dark fruits and roastiness. Sticky sweet dark caramel malty body has a mild hint of acetone and some rich dark chocolate and coffee flavors toward a full, bittersweet roasted finish. A pretty nice imperial stout. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Oct 21, 2007 Date: 10/14/2007

luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 14, 2007 Sampled at the 5th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer is very dark brown with a small, light brown, frothy/creamy, mostly and quickly vaporizing head.

The aroma is malty with moderate-to-heavy notes of roasted grain, moderate notes of molasses, chocolate, light note of toasted nuts; Hoppy with a light note of herb; Yeasty with a light note of dough; Miscllaneous notes contain a light hit of peat and a drace of smokey runny cheese.

The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, trace bitter with a long, lightly bitter, moderately sweet, trace acidic finish. Slighly bitter aftertaste.

The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. rmussman (905), California, USA Apr 12, 2007 Sampled at the brewhouse in Boulder. Very nice. Poured into a wine snifter basically. Pours jet black with a thin lacey head. Definitely a high degree of roasted chocolates or molasses. Certainly worth a try if you are around. I cant believe its rated so lowly.
