Aroma-vanilla bean, crystal malt. Has the notes of a strong brown ale. Tate-slight vanilla, anise, rootbeer, light cream, and amber malts. For some reason this reminds me of a rootbeer float. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Updated: Apr 17, 2005Deep red hue. Big, fluffy, beige head. Fairly easy to drink, mild and gentle strong ale. Notes of roast and quite a bit of toast. Has a decent-sized underlying sweetness (caramel and rock candy). Mild hints of herbs and spices. Subdued alcohol. Nicely balanced. Rerate: Huge notes of caramel exude throughout. Thick, syrupy, sugary and moderately carbonated. Lesser notes of toffee. Bitterness is decent, but not quite enough to balance out the heavy sweetness. Kind of rough, bitter hops. Edgy beer, but pretty good overall. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
