From a 12 oz bottle it poured a dark brown with tan head. Nose of roasted malts, chocolate, adn coffee. Somewhat thin mouthfeel for a porter. Flavors of roasted malts and mild hops. Finish nondescript. OK, but not outstanding.

Nitro at Magnetic Field. Dark brown with cascading bubbles and a cream head. Basic dark roast malt aroma and flavor, with a bit of pruney (lactic?) tartness. Thins out rapidly on the finish. Not that good.

A smelly porter with a booze-ish flavor to the whole thing. This watery, slimy, flat porter was one to warm me up on a hot spring day. But in the end, all I could muster was a bellyache. Good day to you sir!

This dark brown ale poured with a decent off-white head. The flavor is quite thin with a little maltiness and a slightly discernible hop finish. I used to like this one before all the great microbreweries sprang up, but it just doesn’t hold up any more.

Bottle. Nice off-white head. Very dark brown color. Nice taste of roasted malt. I enjoy porters and this is a pretty tasty one.

Hey porter! Hey porter! Born on 11/14/06 Black hook Red hook porter. Can’t wait, just tasted a pretty crappy beer and I need to get my spirits up. Brown 12 oz bottle, pours really dark into my new coach steeler stein. The aroma has slight hints of coffee and roastyness in there, but just barely, nothing outstanding. The taste is initially a little bitter and there is no head, just a little froth on the top. Dark roasty flavors but not terribly offensive. Is than a roasting maltness I detect? Taste after taste the bitterness begins to slowly build. Decent creamy carbonation on the taste buds back there in my throat. A very interesting kind of dark beer. Enjoyable, but any beer is enjoyable. My uvula is having some thoughts of a medium bitterness that is hanging on and lingering.

quite nice....dark brown body with medium beige head...aroma is large in lactose sugars, milk chocolate, and light coffee...roasted milky flavor with a lght bitter aftertaste...a bit thin

I used to drink a lot of Redhook beer back in my college days (late ’90s) and quite enjoyed it at the time. I haven’t had any Redhook for awhile, so I’ll be interested to see how their brews rate these days... Blackhook Porter pours a translucent, dark brown color (similar to cola) with a vanishing tan head that was initially thin and foamy. The aroma is roasted chocolate malt, as is the flavor (augmented with some weak coffee undertones as well). After it warms up some, there is a hint of hoppiness in the aroma as well. An earthy, roasty, and mildly bitter (pleasing) finish quickly develops, but doesn’t linger very long. The palate is watery. Overall this is a decent porter with a nice flavor, but it’s a bit too thin and generally weak. 12 oz bottle (bonus) from bitbucket. Bottled: JUN 28 06 (679). Thanks Bob!
