Aroma was dominantly coffee with chocolate and toasted bread notes. Flavor seemed off from when I have had it in bottles. Seemed like the tap line wasn’t clean and they just had framboisen in there. They said the line was clean, and it had been on tap over a month. Who knows? Flavor was chocolate with rasberry mixed in. Reminded me of New Belgium Framboisen. Body was watery. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 9, 2006 Updated: Oct 8, 2006A dark brown beer with a red shine, with a beige colored head, looking something like rising bread. The aroma is sweet with strong fruit notes as well as notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with a light roasted note, that gives the beer a dryness which mixes in with notes of chocolate. I find it very light for a Porter (though not out of style), so I’m a bit disappointed in it taking the style and brewery into account.
I had Redhook Nitrogen Porter, I think at R.F.D. in DC - I guess it is the same beer just on nitro. I gave it one less in appearance and one less overall - and only deviation in my notes is a comparison to Guinness. bhensonb (4392), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Aroma of chocolate, and maybe some malt. Very dark brown color; very little head. It ends with chocolate, but it starts with coffee. There are some hops, thinnish body, some undistinguishable fruit. Pleasant to quaff. A bit fresher than many porters. Lively. The aftertaste is coffee with some light bitterness. Took a fair while to get to the aftertaste. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Bottled. Pours a clear blackish brown with amber highlights and a slightly lacy off-white head. The aroma is nutty with some coffee and a trace of chocolate. The body is medium with fine carbonation. The taste is coffee, roasty malt, nuts and some dried frut with a pine and espresso bitter finish. Nicely balanced and refreshing. bu11zeye (5698), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 25, 2006 (Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and cocoa. Flavor is reminiscent of an English porter with rye, roasted malt, mild hops, and chocolate. Quixote18 (230), Johnson City, Tennessee, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 15, 2006 Bottle to English pint glass. Dark walnut brown color with a miniscule, quickly diminishing head. The giant bubbles with no head almost made me think I was drinking a Coke. Aroma was of very mild roasted malts and English hops. The flavor was similiar mu more robust than the puny aroma suggested. Had a little coffee in the finish. jeffc666 (1898), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 14, 2006 Generic straight-up porter. Not bad in any way but just so forgettable. On a side note, at teh restaurant where I ordered this I asked what beers they had and the waiter said that they have just about everything. What a laugh. He then said, "what do you usually drink?" to which I replied, "That is not a question that you want to ask me, just give me the Blackhook."
