12oz bottle: Pours dark brown with a very thin head that disolves immediatly. Has a little malty aroma and also tastes malty with a very fine hint of chocolate with a sweet aftertaste. Not Too bad.

Pours with a two-finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Deep red/amber color. Medium carbonation and heavy bodied. Nose is roasted coffee. Bottled on 5/14/03 - now 19 months later and it tastes fine. Starts and finishes with a roasted chocolate/coffee flavor. $1.75 for a 12 oz bottle from Oliver’s Beverages Albany, NY.

Dark brown body with a creamy head that was tight and smooth. Flavors of sweet roasted malts dominate, thought there is also a touch of burntness. Hops are present, but not overwhelming. There are hints of coffee and chocolate, but not as much as with other porters. There was also some sourness in the finish, which was thinner than usual.

Bottle: Lasting beige head on a deep dark brown body. Roasted & espresso aromas, hints of diacetyl add nice subtle complexity. No hops and very low fruitiness. A little thin on flavor as all characteristics are fairly subtle except the roasted flavor. Light hop flavor in the finish & aftertaste; a little sour from dark grain acidity, toasty malt, again, very low fruitiness. Lightly dry, chalky m/f, medium carbonation, thinner medium body. Not a bad beer, but it’s just a little thin IMHO for a porter.

Dark, dark brown with thin head. Nose has hints of roasted coffee, faint. Much thinner bodied than I expected, hints of anice and roasted coffee, but again...thin. Finishes clean and nearly tasteless. The finish is actually watery.

Pours black but can be seen as ruby when held to a light. Tan head is mild and dissipates quickly leaving a lot of lacing around the edges. Aroma is somewhat weak, mostly roasted malt, a bit of alcohol presence, and a whiff or two of fresh yeast. Flavor is not at all complex but does have a bit of hops bite and a few pleasant appearances of dark malt, smoke, coffee, and alcohol. Finishes with a nice bitterness that saves this brew from ruin. Aroma and flavor both have a fresh quality about them that is definitely appreciated. Overall, I would drink this again if I was feeling in the mood for a simple porter: with emphasis on the word simple.

(12 oz bottle) Acceptable but unexciting porter with a very gentle dark roasted flavor that is malty, rather sweet and a bit yeasty; Pretty mild bitterness allows the malt flavor to dominate this beer early, though it does become a bit more bitter and balanced in the finish, with some smokiness kicking in at the very end; Medium bodied with a pretty average level of viscosity for the style; The nose is lightly malty and sweet, but not really toasty or roasted; Dark brown and opaque, but slightly transluscent when held up to a strong light; Light tan head isn’t terrible large after the pour, but it maintains a thin layer for quite a while; A fairly dense though splotchy layer of lacing is left on the glass

Pours black/opaque with no head. Nose is of sweetness, chocolate, and licorice. Flavor of coffee, cocoa and malt. Thin mouthfeel. Dry finish.
