| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 14, 2003 Dark black color. Small tan foamy head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate and “burnt toast”. A light to medium bodied porter. Malts are chocolate and coffee, with a slight roastyness. Hops are slightly spicy. A little light bodied for a porter, the malt balance is right, but the mouthfeel is way too thin. There is a touch of vegetative flavor, not unpleasant but unexpected. Drinkable, but to light in body to be taken seriously as a porter. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. AlabastorJones (766), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 30, 2003 Dark brown/red appearance, thin tan head, chocolatey aroma, flavor is nutty, chocolatey, with burnt notes and a hint of vanilla, the palate is really thin, i poured a mocha porter to compare it too and the rogue made this look like hefe-weisse. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2003 Jet black. I had this one on tap at Union Jacks, and it tastes very close to Guinness. Nice rich creamy tan head, and very smooth to drink. It also reminded me somewhat of Fullers London Porter, but Fullers is much better. All in all a good porter. | 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Nov 23, 2003 When poured, the head is the right color, but thin looking. The color of the beer is dark enough to look like a porter and the aroma is a bit sharp. The flavor is the most dissapointing part. It lacks maltiness, and it seems watery to the palate. It seems to me that the bigger this brewery gets, the worse its beer becomes. I fear they have lost sight of their craft beer roots. layyze (28), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 21, 2003 A deceivingly dark color. A tad on the light side for a porter. Not as malty as some of my more favorite porters. Still a great standby when buying beer. blatz (138), Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 18, 2003 Rather disappointed after finally finding this in Florida. Has a nice appearance and aroma, but there is really little substance to the taste -- very thin. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Nov 17, 2003 Little bit o'chocolate malt, a little bit of harshness. Nice color (ruby tinted) nice head retention; appropriate body. A kind of not so clean sweetness pervades afte rthe first few sips. If I could find this regularly it would be on the borderline of seeking again; as it is I have much better porters regularly available. Reid (1092), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2003 OK bought in the regular 12 oz brown stubbie that all Redhook products came in..Like the RedHook label design.
Beer looks very pleasant when poured nice darkish brown porter colour with garnet accents when held to the light, nice creamy tan head..good lacing.
Smell is good but weak for a Baltic porter..roasted malts are evident..slight coffee aroma but weak.
Again the tatse is rather weak for style, but still nice..roasted malt predominates..i detect some hops in the after taste.
Rather watery for style in the mouth.
Despite its faults it like all RedHook products is drinkable.
