Not much of a porter at all...some of the taste reminds me of one. Deep black pour. Some chocolate from the taste...maybe some coffee as well. Not that great of a porter though. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 12, 2003 GD it! I just read from another members review of the Double Black Stout that it was discontinued and I never even got to sample it, SH$T!
Well the Blackhook Porter will have to do for now anyways! I used the straight pour which resulted in a fluffy tan head atop a black / crimson body. Aroma is roasty, chocolate and rich dark malts. The flavor is not exceptionally pronounced but in union with that of the aroma. The palate and mouth feel are to some extent creamy, but fairly watery for a Porter. Overall a pretty good porter, not too filling and quit drinkable.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 21, 2003 Very dark brown pour, possibly black. Nice lacing and small head. Roasted malt, chocolate and hints of nuts in the nose. Flavor is mainly smoky and slightly roasted. Average porter. BückDich (4856), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 21, 2003 Pours black with ruby edges. Head is unimpressive with a little lacing. Aroma is light but has detectable caramel malt and chocolate, some cardboard. Flavor is slightly metallic and roasted. Finishes slightly smoky but watery. Overall this is a light porter with nothing exciting but nothing dissapointing, unusal for redhook. Murph06 (121), Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 20, 2003 overall, not bad. Good color, but flat head. Nice roasted/toasted malt. Could use more complexity, a very common porter flavor... UNCCTF (465), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 16, 2003 Poured a barely translucent black, with an excellent malt-dominated, almost burnt smoky aroma. A full-bodied sweet flavor, wtih a little bit of hoppiness in the back. A good porter. ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2003 Typical pour of a porter, very black. Smoky aroma, roasted malt, roasted nuts. Very smooth, nothing smacks you in the face initially, but the finish is a caramelly, roasted malt, nuttiness. Nice sweetness, but not overpowering. The only knock is the lack of a taste initially, otherwise this is a very nice beer.
