Very smooth, nothing smacks you in the face initially, but the finish is a caramelly, roasted malt, nuttiness. Nice sweetness, but not overpowering. The only knock is the lack of a taste initially, otherwise this is a very nice beer. DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2003 Pours a black and nearly opaque color with a very mild light brown head that does not hang around. Nose is roasty and nutty. Star is pretty undefined, followed by a very hearty rich nuttyness that is not bitter like the bottle promised. There might be a slightest hint of fruit in there as well. The palate is perfect and feels great going down. A very drinkable beer. There may be some complexity that is lacking. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2003 This brew poured a small head of brown fine to medium sized mostly lasting bubbles that left a good spider web like lacing and an uncarbonated black brown body behind. Its aroma is a very mild sweet malty one. The flavor is a mild coffee malt one with an initially smooth mouthfeel that linger for awhile ending just a little bitter.
