12 oz. bottle. Pours a black body with red-brown hue and thin off-white head. Roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee. Medium body with strong roasted malt flavors and a sweet coffee finish. Aftertaste is a little metallic and earthy.

A sweet malty aroma. Not overly roasted. A medium light mouthfeel. The flavor is slightly creamy, malty. Very good.

11-20-07 bottle.
Thin black pour. Decent smell of mostly malt. Weak bodied and watery with a very bland finish.

Dark brown pour with ruby edges. Medium sized beige head. Watery roast malt smell along with a stale cardboard like smell. Low carbonation with metallic, watery roasted malt flavor. Pretty remedial example of the style. Boring, bland, and unimpressive.

Pours near black with reddish hues and a fully receding light tan head. Aroma of roasted barley, chocolate malt, foamy grain, caramel, and plums. Tastes of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, hint of earthy coffee. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. A good porter, exceeded my expectations.

Deep amber with nearly white disappearing head. Aroma of sweetness & crystal malts. A bit watery. A moderately sweet, and somewhat unbalanced taste. Mouthfeel is too carbonated. Finish is better balanced with some sweetness and some dryness. Decent roasted character.

Draft at the Woodinville brewpub. 15 years ago, I thought a bottle or a pint of this stuff was kind of an interesting way to spend a round. Not so much today. Black with rubied highlights--seems like a fairly well clear beer behind that roasty opacity. Scant gray head. Light roasty and bittersweet chocolatey nose. Light body, especially for a porter, it’s almost watery. Soft carb. Light brown sugar and brown bread mid-palate, but not too much going on for the finish.
