Treephiend (57), Walla Walla, Washington, USA Feb 20, 2008 Pours dark dark brown with a tan head. Smells of coffee and dried fruit. Its a good dark porter, all the flavors of a stout are there, just a bit more subdued, the chocolate, the coffee and the dried fruit. The mouth feel is somehow creamy yet thin at the same time. Weird. I usually have medium expectations from Red Hook and this is exactly what I was expecting. A solid brew.
decaturstevo (1398), decatur, Tennessee, USA Dec 29, 2008 Chocolate from the bottle not much from the glass on the nose. Light brown by porter standards. Light chocolate no coffee to speak of a bit of a sour on the finish. A little thin and watery. A decent bitter but lacking in body, flavor, and complexity. A very average porter. cbeers21 (480), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Tap @ brewery. Good looking pour with decent mocha head. Nice toasty aromas, dusty pine hops and burnt coffee highlight the aroma. Nice chewy roasted malty body with light caramel and vanilla touches. Fairly well constructed and a tasty brew overall, not outsanding for the style, but solid all around. PattyBoy (302), North Liberty, Iowa, USA Nov 1, 2008 Pours dark brown, thin head. Flavor is roasts and chocolate. Watery and thin mouthfeel. Not bad, but nothing to make it stand out. CaptBier (273), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Nov 1, 2008 Black body with medium tan head.
