blipp (578), Grand Island, New York, USA May 8, 2008 Draft. Pours black with a lasting beige head. Light coffee aroma with a bit of caramel as well. Medium smooth body. Flavor is the same as the aroma. Not bad, but pretty unimpressive.
the_chandler (168), West Virginia, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours a mostly opaque, dark dark brown with a red tint. Aroma is a little nutty, good full malt aroma. Flavor is crisp, still malty..a little bit bitter from the hops. Tastes like cascade. Not too bad. Solid brew overall. FlssmrBrewAlum (164), South Chicago Suburbs, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2008 12 oz. single from John’s Grocery (Iowa City, IA). Made the trip to Illinois on the move home. Poured a deep dark brown with reddish notes on the edges. Small coca cola head that dissipates and a slightly fast speed. Aromas of dark roasted malts and a light sweetness, present but more subdued than I had hoped. Initial taste a bit watery, dark malts with a mellow roasted malt sweetness, notes of bitter cofee and a faint chocolately sweet smoothness. Needs a fuller body. Finishes with that coffee bitterness. A decent brew but very forgettable as a representative of its style. Rynoplasty (186), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 13, 2008 Pours near black with some red around the edges and a smallish tan head. Aroma is not too strong but of pale, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is smooth and malty but a little light, with chocolate malt flavor coming through. Not a bad porter. boFNjackson (465), Portland, Oregon, USA Apr 28, 2008 Bottle... Poured deep black with amber highlights and a brown head. Aroma of chalky malt and subtle coffee. Strong roasted malt flavors which are complemented by smooth chocolate and coffee beans. Finally a Red Hook brew I actually enjoyed.
