Fortunately, the taste is very, very good, with overwhelming coffee notes not quite on the level of Peche Mortel but very tasty nonetheless. For the price, it’s hard to find a much better beer; a surprisingly delicious offering. ROGUE (653), Newark, Delaware, USA

Poured a rich clear black color with a huge and long lasting tan head. Smells of caramel with hints of coffee and a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is big and coffee infused with lots of bitterness that is just off set by a touch of chocolate sweetness. Very roasty and toasty. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. Afine coffee stout. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 26, 2009 Big aromas of roast and coffee lead to a slightly acrid finish. Little head dissapates into moderate carbonation. The coffee flavor is a bit stronger than most coffee-stouts and is reminiscent of strong drip coffee instead of espresso, much like Lagunitas Cappucino Stout. I would have liked a fuller mouthfeel to simulate the syrupy texture of an espresso. Derek881 (493), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2009 Poured from a large bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a roasty malt aroma with notes of coffee, chocolate, and some caramel, a bit of earthy hops too. It had a medium -bodied, solid black color with a dark brown hue and a creamy dark tan head that was short-lived but had nice lacing. The beer was a sweet coffee-chocolate blend with some roasty effects and some underlying bitterness that became more pronounced at the finish. The body was an average thickness with moderate carbonation, and fairly wet with a slightly lighter mouthfeel. 17thfloor (1464), Chicago, Illinois, USA
