Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Big aromas of roast and coffee lead to a slightly acrid finish. Little head dissapates into moderate carbonation. The coffee flavor is a bit stronger than most coffee-stouts and is reminiscent of strong drip coffee instead of espresso, much like Lagunitas Cappucino Stout. I would have liked a fuller mouthfeel to simulate the syrupy texture of an espresso.

Poured from a large bottle into a pint glass to drink. The beer had a roasty malt aroma with notes of coffee, chocolate, and some caramel, a bit of earthy hops too. It had a medium -bodied, solid black color with a dark brown hue and a creamy dark tan head that was short-lived but had nice lacing. The beer was a sweet coffee-chocolate blend with some roasty effects and some underlying bitterness that became more pronounced at the finish. The body was an average thickness with moderate carbonation, and fairly wet with a slightly lighter mouthfeel.

22oz bottle dated 10.08.08. Pours a black coffee color with a smaller beige fizzy froth. Aroma of hard roast, some acidity. Flavor is extra strong brewed coffee, some bright sugar and cream. Medium bodied, low carbonation, thicker watery feel. Fairly decent.

Bottled. Black color with a reddish glow. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt. Taste of a very malty schwarzbier, again good coffee notes. Good stuff.

Bottle @ tasting by jbrus. A black colored beer, with a red shine on it. It has a thick beige head’. The aroma has smoked malts with dry hops and notes of chocolate and coffee. The taste is dry, smokie. There are hops and fruits with flavors of chocolate and coffee. The aftertaste is dry with some smoke a little hop bitter and notes of sweet.

Bottle@UDRM. Coffee aroma. Black colour, light brown head, good lace. Sweetish, roasted, bitter, coffee, medium body. Great balance, flavourful, easy going. I wouldn’t call it a Stout however but Imperial Schwarzbier would do.
