| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Poured black and opaque with a gernerous tan head, nice retention and good lacing. Strong roasted malt and coffee aromas, with the chocolate in the background. Definite milk chocolate flavors with the coffee and espresso. Some bitterness, but more from the chocolate than any strong hops presence. Full bodied, minimal carbonation and a sweet chocolate aftertaste. jazz88 (2237), San Francisco, California, USA

Sweet chocolate aroma with a rich but nicely subtle coffee finish. Slightly sour milk and bitter chocolate flavors. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt notes of grain, milk chocolate and mild coffee, light hop and yeast smells of herbs and earth, with hints of cola and raw green vegetables. Head is creamy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is deep dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, and a touch sour, then finishes moderately bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a bit of creaminess and has a carbonation between soft and lively. It finishes a little metallic. Nice aromas, but a little flat on flavor, still a good Stout. Taste is coffee laden with more dark, roasted malts and more dark chocolate flavors. Rather bittersweet. Body is thick and creamy with light carbonation feel.
