Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Bottled. Black color with a reddish glow. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt. Taste of a very malty schwarzbier, again good coffee notes. Good stuff.

Bottle @ tasting by jbrus. A black colored beer, with a red shine on it. It has a thick beige head’. The aroma has smoked malts with dry hops and notes of chocolate and coffee. The taste is dry, smokie. There are hops and fruits with flavors of chocolate and coffee. The aftertaste is dry with some smoke a little hop bitter and notes of sweet.

Bottle@UDRM. Coffee aroma. Black colour, light brown head, good lace. Sweetish, roasted, bitter, coffee, medium body. Great balance, flavourful, easy going. I wouldn’t call it a Stout however but Imperial Schwarzbier would do.

Pours an almost opaque black into the glass, with the deepest ruby-mahogany hues to the fringes. The creamy-tan head reduces to a thin cap that leaves thick sudsy lace down the pour. The nose is of roasted grains, coffee and bittersweet chocolates. The flavor shows (in order:) dark fruity esters and toasted malt upfront; roasted cocoa beans mid-palate, and strong black coffee with smoked coffee grounds in the finish. Some light bitters integrate perfectly with the java notes at work, causing a nice ester-bitter (just shy of acrid) finish. The texture is complex for a traditional stout, providing a full, creamy mouthfeel upon a thick, rich palate. This is a very, very nice traditional stout, and one that might hold enough elements to be considered an Impy Stout. The roasted, smoky coffee bitters linger so well.... it almost reminds me of freshly-ground strong coffee in the aftereffects. Nice job!

Bottle. Pours pretty much black, with lighter reddish edges and a thin brown head. Aroma is mocha. Flavor is rich and roasty with a decent amount of lightly bitter chocolate and evident coffee. Finish is lightly bitter and offers a lasting coffee flavor. Smooth medium body. A well done coffee stout.

Thin light brown head of fine bubbles. Reduces slowly. Roasted grains, chocolate malts and some coffee. Aroma is a bit on the weak side. Color is a very dark brown. Dark roasted malts, a bit of coffee, some bitterness and a bit of dark chocolate. Very smooth and easy drinking brew. A decent stout at a decent price.
