| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 4, 2009 Appearance: Pours a pitch black body with a medium-sized, frothy, light tan head. Fairly diminishing head with only a thin smattering of lacing.
Smell: Roasted grains in the nose with mild notes of chocolate, pine tree saplings, prunes, and a tall cup of breakfast blend coffee.
Taste: Roasty maltiness with light touches of unsweetened chocolate and coffee. Touch of scorched cream, maybe some burnt grains. Light fruitiness, with the tiniest sour kick. Piney hop character, which, along with the roastiness, delivers a medium-high bitterness. Finishes roasty with a faint lingering pine needle taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Acceptable. While not the best coffee stout I’ve downed in my many long years, it’s not the worst. It could benefit from a heft in sweetness and body. I’ll be sure to give the rest of the proposed Redhook Limited Release line-up a try. lamas (728), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2009 22 oz. bottle from October 9th, 2008. Batch: 08-0410. Jet-black pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, vanilla beans, and of course, roasty coffee. Full-bodied. A good deal of very sweet caramel and chocolate upfront. Vanilla beans and molasses follow. Roasty, drying coffee finishes things off with a bitterness that lingers. Not one of the most in-your-face coffee flavored stouts I have had. I wonder how this compares to when it was made with Starbucks. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2009 It is finally back. I used to enjoy this beer. Comes in the same comforting 22oz bomber bottle format and pours deep darkness with infra red edges and impressive mocha head. The moderate aroma carries rich roasted coffee, burnt malts, a hint of licorice and a touch of either earthiness or oxidation. The taste begins with a subtle sense of velvetiness across the tongue as notes of dark roasted coffee and burnt malts greet the taste buds. Midway licorice and earthiness surface before becoming a bit chocolate like into the finish. Strykzone (1496), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 3, 2009 Pour is a thick almost black with a small tan head. The aromas of coffee and chocolate waft from the glass delightfully. It is a thick, rich, and sweet aroma. Again, delightful. Flavor is coffee with some chocolate and a bit of licorice. Milk and a hint of hop, as well. Feel is powdery but smooth and thick with some nice effervescence. Nice! Beardface (1036), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 1, 2009 Pours more of a dark brown than black with some of the best and heaviest lacing I’ve ever seen and a really nice half inch tan head. Aroma seems to be mainly roasty coffee and some dark fruit while the flavor is a nice solid coffee that chips at the tongue with some heavy chocolate influence as well. I think I got a little overhyped on this one, but it is still pretty darn tasty. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2008 Bomber from Beverages 4 Less. Pours black with brown/mahogany edges. Short, thick tan head with super-heavy lacing. Not even swishing the beer around would get it off. Nose of burnt coffee, some charred wood, roasted oats, and cream. Taste is slightly acrid in the coffee flavors; kind of like old coffee. Blends well with the dark and milk chocolate flavors, a bit oaty and grainy at times. No cream/milk follow-through as in the nose. Some soy sauce towards the back as the beer warms. A bit thin in the motuhfeel in terms of the "Imperial" status, but consistent with a regular stout. yankeefan21 (82), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Bottle: Poured a nice shade of black with a finger tall brown head. The aroma was surprisingly subtle for a beer with the strong flavors this one has. The first mouth full is almost like sipping a cold espresso. If you let it sit a little longer on your tongue, there are hints of cocoa and vanilla. It goes down pretty easily and is medium bodied. Overall this is a pretty good beer - might like it more if I were a coffee drinker. I’d rather be drinking an Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence but this would be a good beer to have in place of coffee after a nice meal. Rciesla (3790), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA
