However, this is not overpowering as you taste the malts. The alcohol is mild, leaving a smooth finish. Cybercat (795), Georgia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 25, 2008 Aroma is quite strong and very inviting, like a fine coffee with hints of smoke and toffee, and just a touch of chocolate. Pours a rich opaque sable with a fairly thick dark tan head. Flavor does not disappoint, mouth-filling and surprisingly chocolaty, more like coffee mixed with cocoa than mocha. It has a good smoky overtone and hints of toffee and just a little bit of hop bitterness. It goes down smoothly and leaves a slightly sweet, chocolaty aftertaste. mreusch (729), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 25, 2008 22oz. bomber, batch 08-0410, brewed 10/09/2008. Pours a dark brown with a three finger tan head, great retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, fresh roast coffee, molasses and light vanilla. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, coffee and a bit harsh. The aroma isnt stellar, and the flavor goes downhill a bit from there. A decent effort, but there are far, far better coffee stouts out there. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Bomber. Perfectly black body with a light gold brown sugar colored head. The aroma was light coffee with some molasses. There was also some plum goodness. The taste was sweetened coffee with some raisins and milk chocolate. Decent, but finishes too sweet. There were also some annoying paper tasting notes, especially in the finish. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Black pour, moderate sized tan head with some lacing and retention. Roasted chocolate aroma, some lesser caramel notes. Body struggles to be medium but attains it. Quite drinkable but lacks complexity. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours into a snifter very dark brown nearly black topped by a purple tinted tan head. random spotty lacing is minimal.
the aroma is very malty with a a touch of char/ acidity, stale mediocre quality coffee, toasted nuts, brown sugar, milk/lactose and a little bit of spice.
definite lactose flavor is almost off putting... malty and a little sour with some caramel, ash, chocolate and cinnamon-y spice. sour finish with some mellow coffee lingering in the aftertaste. light to medium body with an acidic mouth feel and prickly carbonation.
all in all it*s rather meh. but, it is light enough to drink a bunch of.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2008 22oz bomber picked up at Magruders, DC. Thick. opaque black color with some slim stained glass red corners. Nice, lasting head. Big coffee aroma. So was this the original Coffee Stout? Nu-school db double black label. This really is a nice Coffee Stout. The big malt body works quite well with the coffee. Excellent mouthfeel. A must for Stouties.
