Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

[bottle - 22 oz] Dark brown pour with a very thin tan head. Aroma is light with good hints of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Coffee flavors mix with roasted malts at the beginning followed immediately by a smooth and roasty middle that has a hint of chocolate and vanilla. Finishes clean and a bit bitter with some coffee flavors lingering on the tongue. A bit watery however.

Bomber poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a smooth dri lingering bitter roasty finish. Not bad but kinda one dimensional.

Bottle: Deep brown pour with a nice fluffy beige head. Good lacing. Roasty and coffee filled aroma, transfers right into the taste. A nice bit of dark chocolate bitters too. Very good.

Roasted coffee malt aroma with a hint of cocoa. There is something a little off about the flavor at first. Could be a little over hopped. The finish comes back to coffee and bittersweet chocolate and is pretty quick on the finish. I was excited to see this at the store since I was not aware it would be made again but sadly I was a bit disappinted.

Bottle purchased from Bevmo for a fairly moderate price. Poured a dark brown with a smaller than expected tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, oats and chocolate. Hints of caramel and nuts. Flavor had a pronounced chalky presence. That was followed by some decent tasting coffee. Roasted malt notes with only faint hints of chocolate, caramel and nuts. A light sweetness and bitterness. Expected more, as this was just ok.

Batch 08-0410 Pitch black beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is very rich and chocolatey. Loads of soft milk chocolate and cocoa. A very light sweetness and a bit of cream and vanilla as well. Light toasty back notes behind the sweet milk chocolate. A bit of soft earthiness and a light flinty bitterness. Soft espresso roastiness and a rich bitterness. Pretty awesome beer.

Portland Holiday Ale Fest 2008. Dark brown/almost black, with a tall khaki head. Sweet dark chocolate up front, good roastiness. Finish has a soft coffee note and a light hint of peanut butter. Overall pretty nice stout, definitely a bit on the sweet side, but I enjoy sweeter stouts.

Bomber from Bevmo La Jolla. Bottle Says Imperial Stout, I think I had a candle of this beer from College. Pours black with a light brown head. Nose is sweet with lots of coffee. Taste is sweet and rich with a good rich coffee kick. Pretty tasty.
