Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Chocolate. Tart finish. Almost all the ingredients towards a serious chocolate stout. But too carbonated and very thin. Quite a disappointment given the hype surrounding its limited release.

Solid everyday stout but also a bit boring too. Smells sorta fruity. Didnt find hardly any coffee flavor.

Bomber. Pours jet black with a thick, towering tan head that leaves decent lace. Moderate chocolatey nose with a bit of coffee, though not a heck of a lot, surprisingly enough. Creamy, medium body with carb well subdued. Just enough there to feel it subconsciously. Gets a bit watery here and there. Nice rich dark roasted coffee notes hanging around with black bread and roasted barley on the mid palate. Not nearly the stunning tour de force I remember from years ago, alas. But nice enough.

22oz bottle, batch 08-0410. Pours a pitch black in color with brown head. Aroma roasted coffee, malt and dark chocolate. Taste roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate with bitter finish.

22oz bomber Batch 08-0410 (Binny’s Naperville)-Pours a pitch black body with a huge tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, toffee, and chocolate. Taste begins with coffee and chocolate and that lasts throughout the taste with the coffee coming out even more on the back end. I wonder why they dumped Starbucks from the original brew? This medium to full bodied brew is rather tasty but a little thin for an imperial as they say on the label. Quite tasty.

650ml bottle poured into a shaker. RDBS pours... wait for it... black with a thin head that leaves a barely noticeable soapy lacing. The aroma is malty with a domineering coffee bill. The body is pleasantly thick in the vein of good stouts. The taste is mostly coffee with roasted malt and a touch of toffee. The finish is solid and a tad dry. This is one of the best beers I have had from Red Hook and a pretty good stout showing. Overall I give it a better-than-average ranking.

Bottle shared by Pineypower thanks Dean. Pours a deep dark brown with a small light beige head. Originally I thought it looked a litle thin but I have to remember not every stout is an Impy. Aroma of sweet chocolate syrup and coffee over a roasted malt background. Thin bodied with very strong carbonation and a strong bitterness on the finish. Flavor of roasted malts sweet sugary chocolate and to a lesser extent coffee. I found this one a little to sweet for me but still worth trying.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Very smooth body, with roasted malt, coffee beans, and a light chocolate sweetness. A bit underwhelming at first, but it opens up a bit as it warms. Very drinkable.
