Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Pours black, with a brown head. Thick black color. Smells like coffee. Tastes like bitter coffee, but very drinkable. Very good coffee flavor.

Bottle: Pour was very dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma was strong chocolate malt with notes of coffee. Flavor was well blended with a good sweet malt base moving towards a more burnt and smooth coffee flavor. Creamy mouth feel with a hint of chocolate, bitterness, and dryness at the end. Good brew. Could only use a hint less burnt malt and this would be fantastic.

Bottle... Pours dark and sits black with a small creamy, well-tanned head. Big time mocha aroma – lots of coffee; lots of chocolate – with undertones of vanilla and roasted nuts. Full-bodied and ultra silky with tingly carbonation. Tons of charred chocolate and charcoal malts, coffee grounds, cocoa nibs and acrid hops. Burnt, bitter, black finish.

Very inconsistent between the two bottles I had. Not much in the nose. Flavors of coffee grinds, black coffee and a moderate amount of hop spice. Smooth and a tad thin for something labeled Imperial. Not bad at all.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a thin tan haze. Nose is chocolate, dark roast and musty grass. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is grape and mocha fading to molasses, espresso and citrus peel.

db Double Black Stout with Coffee, Batch 08 0410 pours black with a nice off white head with nice lace. The aroma is coffee, high quality chocolate, and perhaps some lactic notes. The flavor is very roasted with some chocolate leaning towards the darker side, some lactic and sour hints, peat perhaps, and kind of an over the top coffee bitterness that does not add but rather detracts from an otherwise decent effort. Overall, could be better, but works OK.

Dark black pour with rocky, tan/red head. Roasted coffee aroma with chocolate. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Coffee and chocolate flavor as well, which contributes to a lot of bitterness. Light citrus hop presence. Somewhat sweet. I almost wish it was a bit sweeter to even out the roasty bitterness from all the coffee. Good enough brew though.
