Picked it up on a whim, and very glad that I did. Pours a nice looking black, with a thin head. Flavor is deep and dark, chocolate and a touch of dark fruit, with a good dose of coffee thrown in. Notes of cream work their way in and out of the flavor, and everything is mixed ina good balance with roasted barley and a touch of caramel and licorice. Never really notced the alcohol. I didn’t expect much from Red Hook, but for the price, this is a solid and drinkable stout. thegreenrooster (1835), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is lots of roasted malt but very little of the coffee shows up. Flavor is about the same but a little watery. A nice roasted malt with a bit of dark chocolate but almost no coffee. As a stout this is just ok but this is deffinatly not a founders breakfast stout. scooterbub (380), Lander, Wyoming, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 28, 2008 24 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark black with a nice dark tan head that slowly fades. Taste is surprisingly fruity, of hops, smoke, roasted malt, caramel, coffee and pine. Has a nice finish that is slightly bitter Aroma is much the same, but the hops and fruit really shine through. Has a good mouthfeel and body and is very easy to drink. The alcohol is hidden well and is nicely balanced. Would be great to have on a cold day, while beside a fire. I hope that they keep making this beer as it is pretty satisfying and a joy to drink. Well worth purchasing again. gwpom (250), Akron, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2008 1 pt 6 oz bottle. When I got home and found this was actually by Redhook, I had some trepidation about it, as one other beer I have had by them was quite hideous. But this wasn’t bad at all, deep and dark, brown head, and while it says ’stout with coffee’ I didn’t distinguish much of a coffee flavor to it, just a normal stoutish flavor. While I would rate it an average stout, I’m pleased that Redhook came up with a good brew. Restores my faith. PhillyBeer2112 (2087), Orange Park, Florida, USA
