Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

I have to say, this is one nice beer. Picked it up on a whim, and very glad that I did. Pours a nice looking black, with a thin head. Flavor is deep and dark, chocolate and a touch of dark fruit, with a good dose of coffee thrown in. Notes of cream work their way in and out of the flavor, and everything is mixed ina good balance with roasted barley and a touch of caramel and licorice. Never really notced the alcohol. I didn’t expect much from Red Hook, but for the price, this is a solid and drinkable stout.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is lots of roasted malt but very little of the coffee shows up. Flavor is about the same but a little watery. A nice roasted malt with a bit of dark chocolate but almost no coffee. As a stout this is just ok but this is deffinatly not a founders breakfast stout.

24 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark black with a nice dark tan head that slowly fades. Taste is surprisingly fruity, of hops, smoke, roasted malt, caramel, coffee and pine. Has a nice finish that is slightly bitter Aroma is much the same, but the hops and fruit really shine through. Has a good mouthfeel and body and is very easy to drink. The alcohol is hidden well and is nicely balanced. Would be great to have on a cold day, while beside a fire. I hope that they keep making this beer as it is pretty satisfying and a joy to drink. Well worth purchasing again.

1 pt 6 oz bottle. When I got home and found this was actually by Redhook, I had some trepidation about it, as one other beer I have had by them was quite hideous. But this wasn’t bad at all, deep and dark, brown head, and while it says ’stout with coffee’ I didn’t distinguish much of a coffee flavor to it, just a normal stoutish flavor. While I would rate it an average stout, I’m pleased that Redhook came up with a good brew. Restores my faith.

Pretty dark black shows a reddish brown at the edge, with a short lived foaming beige head. Aroma is lightly roasty with a touch of molasses. Flavor is bittersweet, with some molasses and dry roasted qualities, ashy finish. Very little coffee. Mildly astringent/husky.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, and light coffee. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with chocolate, roasted malt, and light expresso. It finishes with some bitter black coffee and some light black licorice. Medium-full bodied with light carbonation.
