Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Dark brown pour with tight foamy head that lasts. Aroma of deeply roasted malt and coffee, and some dark chocolate. Flavor is much the same, but a bit weaker. A bit thin on the palate. A good, but not great stout.

The aroma is fantastic with coffee, chocolate, and toasted malt. The appearance is dark brown with a nice foamy head. The taste is not exactly like the aroma there are the same elements but it’s burnt and bitter. The palate is almost thin for an Imperial Stout. Overall it’s not that good to me.

22oz bottle from BevMo Mission Valley. Pours a deep brown with a small tan head. Nose was mostly coffee with some chocolate and dark fruits. Brew seems like its a bit over rated, still pretty good though.

Bottle, 2008. Pours black with a ruby edge and a small tan head. Black coffee liquorice, a nice spice and a bit of smoke flavors. A touch of salt and black olive too. Mouth is astringent. Pretty good stout.

11/21/08 notes: bomber, last beer in tasting. Aroma of fresh ground coffee, and some dark chocolate. Pours black, but not viscous. Primary flavors are consistent with title, namely coffee, roasts, and some baker’s chocolate. I’d say my biggest complaint lies with a relatively thin palate, but this was otherwise quite tasty and drinkable.

pours a dark black with a slight red tint, medium size tan head, good lacing. smell of coffee, sour malt. taste is of strong coffee, sour malt, dark and bitter chocolate, touch of vanilla, end is dry and nicely bitter. overall a good beer, better than most from redhook.

Bomber. Poured black wtih thin fast dissipating head. Aroma of caramel, malt and coffee. Coffee flavour on a solid malt backbone. Caramel notes. Lingering coffee finish. Worth going back to.
