a nice thin layer of off-brown head to make this beer look pretty good. The
beer is completely black. Ah the darker the beer the sweeter the juice, right?
Well, I think so! The beer looked a little thin when I was pouring it, but
looks can be deceiving! A faint chocolate, coffee, and sweet aroma. There is
also a little roast aroma. A nice complex aroma! The beer smells pretty good,
but there a more pungent stouts out there. I wonder if it is still brewed
with Starbucks coffee. Nice roast coffee and chocolate taste. I am gonna have
to let this warm up to get everything. I am noticing a nice roast flavor in the
aftertaste. The flavor is nice and complex. The beer is too thin! I didn’t like
this part. I noticed it as I was pouring it. I don’t like the ABV! 7%? Please,
give me a stout with a rough alcohol taste. It mixes well with the roast, and
coffee! I am not kidding about that! I love them like that! The sweet chocolate
flavor comes through a lot as the beer warms up. This beer has a nice subtle and complex aroma! The flavor is the best part of the beer! Nice and complex flavor
that has the smoke/roast flavor along with the coffee and chocolate. I love how
this beer keeps my tastebuds guessing. Overall, pretty good brew.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Clear black pour, small brownish head. Some roast malt, coffee and mocha in the nose. Really kind of thin bodied. OK roast malt, mocha, coffee flavors. Everything rather subdued. Nothing lingering and a bit watery of a finish. I’d say it is very drinkable though. Probably the best from Red Hook, but I don’t care for that many of their brews. I think this is a bit poorly classified. Almost more of a black lager. jah noth (1023), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Dark fruitiness on the nose with some roasted malts. Pitch black in color with small off-white head. Very sour tasting, mildly maltish like whskey, with some coffee. Lingering fruitiness. Fairly luscious. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Oily black and thick looking. Wonderful bitter coffee and dark chocolate nose. Tastes a lot like a slightly alcoholic cold glass of bitter coffee. In a really good way. A very solid stout. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is strong of dark chocolate and coffee beans. Taste is very rich- yet not overpowering. Full flavored, with coffee, chocolate, smoke and hitns of wood all around. A really nice beer ecspecially on a cold like last. GJF (520), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2008 I’m not generally a big redhook fan, but this is far beyond their norm. A dark, rich stout. I don’t get that much coffee to it, but it’s quite drinkable. boFNjackson (1323), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 19, 2008 Bomber... Poured black with a light brown head. Crisp, roasted malt aroma. Very flavorful and definitely a coffee dominance but not right in your face that you can’t notice the other qualities of the brew. I normally dislike or I’m indifferent to a lot of Redhook beers, but this one definitely stands out.
