| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 19, 2008 Pours a pitch black with dense tan head which diminishes very quickly. Aroma is very strong of coffee, lots of roasted barley and black patent bitterness with a faint undertone of chocolate. Flavor follows a the aroma. Lots of very bitter roasted barley and some sweet notes of chocolate very early in the flavor but the coffee then takes over and is retained on your tongue. The coffee flavor is very good and really shines through but the the beer overall is a bit light in the mouth and has a fine carbonation. With a modest 7.0% alcohol, the beer hides it pretty well. Overall, it’s a decent beer but add in the price that Red Hook is selling it for and you have a good beer at a very cheap price compared to others of the same size and style. dkachur (2424), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Pours dark brown with a thin head on the top of the beer adhering to the glass around the beer’s surface. Pretty strong coffee in the aroma with some roasted malts and leafy hops. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and subtle hops in the background. Medium bodied and fairly bitter. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2008 A ton of roast in the aroma, nice coffee with some mocha dark chocolate sweetness. Pours pretty damn black with a decent lasting head. Roasty up front with notes of coffee beans, mocha, chocolate, and sweetish dark malts. Dry roasty lingering bitterness with some earth as well. Pretty much the best thing I have ever had from Redhook, thats for sure. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2008 Batch 08-0410. Bottled 10/9/08 and consumed just a month later. A deep, dark, mahogany colored body is topped with a large column of spongy, tan colored foam. Thick, splotchy patches of lace coat the glass well. The aroma is straightforward but inviting, notes of dark chocolate malts, espresso, creamy lactose, and earthy hops working together wonderfully. Flavors start off with more chocolate and roasty espresso, showing great balance between sweet and bitter. There is a bit of cola or molasses in there, its sweetness countered by earthy hops and scorched coffee beans. The body is smooth and silky, with subtle carbonation, lacking just slightly in substance but otherwise very nice. This is highly drinkable, almost sessionable, with the 7% ABV well hidden within this tasty brew. Nice stuff. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 18, 2008 Redhook did a nice job with this! Lots of coffee in the nose and taste. Smooth and creamy, with your typical coco, sweetness going on. Really good stuff, certainly considering the 4-5 dollar price tag BrewDad (2372), Olympia, Washington, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2008 2008 Bottle, Batch 08-0410. Claims to be an imperial on the side of the bottle. Pours with a large, fluffy, light brown head that leaves good lacing around the near black body. Aroma of chocolatee, coffee, sweet malt, a bit of alcohol and brown sugar. Taste is nutty with a bit of roast and a touch of alcohol, and dark cooking chocolate (very bitter chocolate). Lively bubbles and a bit thin for a self proclaimed impy stout.
