Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thin light tan head that quickly dissipates to a thin off-white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, a touch of chocolate, coffee and some burnt soft wood. Taste is medium bodied, smooth, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some vanilla, dark chocolate and some coffee. Finish has a dry toasted dark malt and coffee aftertaste with some mild bitterness. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 16, 2008 22oz from Sam’s Durham. Big chocolate nose, some roasts but not a whole lotta coffee in there. Above average body, and it’s fairly easy drinking for the most part. As the beer warms, the lively hops remain present and give the beer some balance. But at the end of the day (glass?) this beer still comes across mostly as a malt bomb. What’s a shame to, as a lover of coffee stouts, is that there’s very little roasted character here. Not to say that the beer’s washed out, but it’s nonetheless a fairly anonymous stout. mar (1883), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2008 Poured a dark brown / mahogany color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of espresso, chocolate, roasted malts, nuts, and burnt wood. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted / coffee notes, vanilla bean, toffee, and light smoke. nbutler11 (762), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 1, 2008 Pours a thin black color from the bomber with a tan head of foam. You can smell the smokey roast from across the room. Brimming with the flavors of burnt coffee, bakers cocoa, and caramel. Closer to a porter in body and certainly unbalanced for its current rating, unfortunately. badgerben (3603), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2008 Surprised to have gotten a hold of this...remember wanting this beer back-in-the-day. Not a bad beer by Redhook but definitely doesn’t live up to the rating. Aroma was undoubtedly this beers best quality...roasted malt, bitter chocolate, caramel and toffee. Extremely thin when compared to some of the better Impy Stouts...and left a strange lactic quality. Not a huge fan.
