Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Whoa Nelly, bring this one back down to Earth please! Way over-rated my friends. It has a high roast component and some fabricated fruit residue. It lives up to it’s abv but overall doesn’t come close to others in it’s supposed class. Big coffee though.

New 2008 22oz Bottle: Pours a black color with a nice tan head and light lacing. The nose is spicy with ample hop herbal notes, roasty chocolate malts and some chewy coffee notes. The flavor is sweet and balanced, lots of vanilla and maple with more of the chocolate and light spicy hop notes. Nice creamy tail and an ample body. Lovely stout, this has been a long time coming, I’ve always wanted to try this one.

It’s back....I think it’s time to change the commercial description here on RB; not exactly ’’the only beer of its kind’’ anymore. This was one of my favorites back in the day when I was a good beer newbie....I’ve been wondering how it would hold up to todays stouts. 22oz bottle. Pours dark black with medium brown head. Looks great in the glass, and an aroma of chocolate, coffee and roast comes through nicely. Taste is more of the same with a little soy and dark fruit. The coffee is fairly sublte, but this is pretty solid altogether. Medium thickness fits well. Cheers to Redhook for bringing this back. No longer ground-breaking, but easily the best beer they make.

New 2008 Bottling, born on 8-8-08. Pours a Deep Dark Viscous Black with a brown mocha head that leaves nice thick lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla and malt. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, roasty coffee, some earthiness and finishes with a nice cocoa / chocolate bitterness. RedHook brewed this.....wow!

On-tap at Redhook Woodinville. Boasting a 9% ABV, this drink has heavy coffee bean and vanilla notes characterizing the heavily roasted malt backbone with slight bitterswwt chocolate, berries and some floral components. Somewhat watery but very drinkable.

Been some time since I enjoyed this beer but it used to be a favorite. Definitely heavy on the coffee and cocoa - mildly sweet and roasty. Palate was not the strongest point but it was great with a meal.

The first stout I really loved. First found it when working on a job in Richmond, VA in ’94. Last found it in Dallas in 2002.

2004 on tap at the Gate. Pitch black beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is very rich and chocolatey. Loads of soft milk chocolate and cocoa. A very light sweetness and a bit of cream and vanilla as well. Light toasty back notes behind the sweet milk chocolate. A bit of soft earthiness and a light flinty bitterness. Soft espresso roastiness and a rich bitterness. Pretty awesome beer.
