Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Color is a thin black with good carbonation and a tight tan head. Aroma is a light roasted scent. Taste is crisp and roasted. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp. Finish is a nice roasted coffee flavor with just a hint of sweet coming out before a bold bitterness jumps out. After taste has a bit of alcohol showing with a lingering bitterness. This is an OK Stout, a little thin. Label clams it to be an Imperial Stout but its no where close to being one.

Butters surprisingly stupendous 6th cellar reduction tasting survey spectacular. Hmmm coffee? Check. Chocolate? Check. It’s a stout. Lighter than many stouts. A little juicier on the mouth feel. Good stout but not great. Good sweetness level. Just enough.

Bottle shared at the 6th Cellar Reduction. Very dark brown clear pour with reddish highlights and ring of khaki head. Nice roasty chocolatey aroma.Overly vegetal flavor, even though it is supposed to be going for nutty. Medium chewy body with a semi bitter coffee finish. Best thing I’ve had from redhook.

Pours a light tan head with legs and a dark brown body. Aromas of coffee and chocolate. Tastes much the same. Finish is medium length.

I’m sorry, but I am still not a fan of Redhook. Pours black with a thin tan head. Mild malt, coffee, and chocolate aroma. Body is a little thin. A little bit of bitter chocolate finish. Average.

A uniform, rather dense tan foam covers the very dark brown pour. Straightforward grainy malts nose hesitating between cereals and coffee flavours. Pretty much devoid of fruitiness, it focuses on its roasted malt component, though it distinguishes itself from the mass through a gentle acidic touch, more citric than lactic; not enough to undermine the balance, but bordering the unpleasant acidity/roast combo. While it starts out relatively sweet (plain cereals/biscuits rather than rich chocolate), it manages to dry out in the finish, which enhances the drinkability. Moderate carbonation, medium body with an oily consistency. A fair stout though its once almost legendary status remains a mystery to me in its contemporary shape.

Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom. It is black with a red hue and a light-brown, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, chocolate and the finish has a little dry citrus, light coffee and a slightly dry bitterness.
