| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 10, 2009 Bottle with Gary. Oil black, very fluffy cappucino-colored head. Aroma of sweet malt, licorice, nuts. Sweet first taste, roasted middle, lingering bitterness. Coffee not overwhelming- very subtle just at the end to round it out. Good beer- not as intriguing as I thought it would be- wish they were more "extreme" with it. RollinHard (763), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2009 Pours black with red highlights and a tan head. Aroma is interesting with coffee beans, cocoa, pine, mint, and licorice. Tastes more normal with coffee, dark chocolate, toasted almonds, dirt, and chalk. Finishes dry with lingering coffee bean flavor and char. Medium bodied, definitely NOT an imperial stout like the label says, even by English imperial stout standards. Might as well make Shakespeare an imperial then. Decent, and a little more interesting than I thought it would be, but still unremarkable overall. 1FastSTi (2588), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2009 Thanks David. The beer pours to a dark cola body with a thin tan head. The aroma is charred black malts with dry coffee. The flavor is like a dry Irish stout with a ton of dry coffee. Black charred malts. The palate is really dry and medium bodied. The nose is roasted malt and light milk chocolate. The taste is roasted malt, ashy cocoa and burnt coffee beans with a touch of hops and an astringent coffee ground finish. Medium bodied – good effort by Red Hook.
