Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

Not too strong. Light and balanced with some coffee and dark cocoa. SOme nic elight bitterness. I feel this one has changed over time.

Very mild aroma... was expecting a more potent coffee smell, disappointed. Clear black pour, very little head. Tastes of semi-sweet chocolate and coffee, although mild flavors. Has a thick feel to it. I thought this beer was nice, but in this category it wasn’t anything special. I’d much rather have the Rogue chocolate or Brooklyn chocolate stout.

Very smooth drinking, great coffee aroma/taste. Nothing too out of the box, but a very nice coffee stout.

Black pour with vivacious tan head. Aroma is of roasty chocolate malt and some coffee. Flavor is much the same- somewhat of a cookie cutter example of the style- nothing special to bring to the table. What it did, however, it did well. Palate is rich and thick, carbonation is medium.

Bottle on 02/24/2009 dated Oct 08 08. Batch 08-0410. Clear very dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy light brown head. Dry chocolate, roast and coffee aroma with a good amount of bitterness. Dry coffee flavor with some chocolate and roast and rather bitter finish that lingers. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Surprisingly little coffee aroma/flavor. Much more chocolate than anything. Some roast bitterness, which is slightly astringent and keeps the beer from being top notch. Quite solid though. Clean flavor. Carbonationlevel not quite right.

Bottle. Pours black with a small, fizzy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, burnt grain, coffee, nutty), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of prunes, smoke, and tar. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

Pours dark brown/black, with a smallish offwhite head. Smells of mostly toffee notes and caramel malt. Not much of the coffee is evident inthe nose. The flavor is a little sticky on the palate, with a touch of burnt malt, roast, and dark chocolate. The coffee flavor really comes out in the finish and aftertaste, although it seems a little forced and doesnt blend too well withthe other characters of this beer if you ask me. i didnt enjoy it that much.
