Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

The coffee shows significantly. The best beer in the house.

Very good stout. Good coffee/chocolate aroma, which, together with respectable bitterness, translates well into the taste and aftertaste. 60-watt test passed no problem with this beer.

Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom. It is black with a red hue and a light-brown, creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, chocolate and the finish has a little dry citrus, light coffee and a slightly dry bitterness.

22oz bottle. Poured a dark, dark brown color (almost black) with an average to larger sized off white head. Aromas of roast, coffee beans, mocha, vanilla, and earthy. Tastes of roast, coffee, lighter earthiness, and mocha. Bitter finish.

A uniform, rather dense tan foam covers the very dark brown pour. Straightforward grainy malts nose hesitating between cereals and coffee flavours. Pretty much devoid of fruitiness, it focuses on its roasted malt component, though it distinguishes itself from the mass through a gentle acidic touch, more citric than lactic; not enough to undermine the balance, but bordering the unpleasant acidity/roast combo. While it starts out relatively sweet (plain cereals/biscuits rather than rich chocolate), it manages to dry out in the finish, which enhances the drinkability. Moderate carbonation, medium body with an oily consistency. A fair stout though its once almost legendary status remains a mystery to me in its contemporary shape.

Bottle... Pours dark and sits black with a small creamy, well-tanned head. Big time mocha aroma – lots of coffee; lots of chocolate – with undertones of vanilla and roasted nuts. Full-bodied and ultra silky with tingly carbonation. Tons of charred chocolate and charcoal malts, coffee grounds, cocoa nibs and acrid hops. Burnt, bitter, black finish.

(22oz. bottle, courtesy of mar) Pours a dark brown body with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, light fennel, coffee, nuts, and light vanilla. Flavor of roasted malt, mild hops (earthy), caramel, and coffee with a bitter finish.
