Commercial Description:
Redhook Double Black Stout is the only beer of its kind in the world. Making the most of two well-known Northwest products, this extraordinary brew marries the sweet, smoothness of classic stout with the rich complexity of fine coffee. The recipe is a closely guarded secret.

This stout is awsome and it is my favorite, but Gritty McDuff’s Black Fly stout is a close second.

It is like the one that got away, I will never forget her! I must have had a few kegs worth when it was made, at time it would be all that I could drink, darn now I’m in tears...........

This is a stout with balls. Big hairy balls. One of the finest microbrews ever allowed for mere mortals. If only any other stout could match the perfection. The multiple colors of this fine stout boggles the mind like vintage 60’s LSD. Only stout that I’ve found that comes close to even teasing would be Rogue Shakespeare Stout. Drink up and trip out.

Aroma is quite strong and very inviting, like a fine coffee with hints of smoke and toffee, and just a touch of chocolate. Pours a rich opaque sable with a fairly thick dark tan head. Flavor does not disappoint, mouth-filling and surprisingly chocolaty, more like coffee mixed with cocoa than mocha. It has a good smoky overtone and hints of toffee and just a little bit of hop bitterness. It goes down smoothly and leaves a slightly sweet, chocolaty aftertaste.

The one drawback of this beer? It actually has the caffeine from the coffee still in it and it will wire your ass up if your not careful. The coffee flavors are very upfront, and the hops complement these bitter flavors very well.

Wow. Pours deep deep brown. Small floaties here and there greating me as I sip this delight. Taste is thick chocolate with sharp hints of coffee. Balance is perfect between the chocolate and coffee. I wish they still bottled this one.

The first stout I really loved. First found it when working on a job in Richmond, VA in ’94. Last found it in Dallas in 2002.
