| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark gold. Smell of beer is all I can say. Decent ESB, but not spectacular. Drinkable stuff. Like but not great. edmajorjoe (79), Vail, Arizona, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2008 Red Hook ESB is a decent beer. If you like bud light at twice the cost, then this is your beer. I was not impressed with the ESB as I am with the Red Hook IPA. Crafty07 (393), Florence, Kentucky, USA

Are there better examples? Yes.
Still, not a bad way to get to the country to try a delicious beer.

ABV: 5.8 %
first impression: mindful of candles, not especially bitter. a bit watery, in fact. Not a bite to be had.
Color: Amber
Aroma: faint, but delicious
Hoppiness: Not hoppy in the least.
Maltiness: Not very malty.
Weight: a bit heavy.
Mouthfeel: just slightly oily.
second impression: Not an especially impressive beer. Very little head or bubbles. No belgian lace to speak of. nice color, but otherwise, forgettable. FlssmrBrewAlum (1177), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 20, 2008 12 oz. bottle from six pack. Pours a mainly transparent dark amberish hue with a lot of carbonation in the body and decent white head atop that coats the glass as I progress. Aromas of english malts and hops, typical of what I’d expect of an ESB. Initial taste is lighter in body and taste with a nice malt presence, a decent hop profile, and a taste that fades to the back. Boring finish and forgettable aftertaste. I like the brew but think there are much better ESBs around that I would rather have (since this is my favorite style). | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 16, 2008 12oz bottle from sampler case. Pours a light copper, lighter than I expected. Floral nose with some hops. Thin off-white head that disapates quickly but leaves a nice lace on the glass. Extremely well balanced between the sweetness of the malt and the piney Cascade hops. Enjoyed this very much. Floback (337), Naples, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 15, 2008 On draft at Red Robin. Traditional amber color, 2 cm of off-white head. Coating lace. Nose is wheat and copper. Crisp grains, clear hop presence, with slight metal in the finish. High carbonation and medium/full body. Decent beer. Nothing special.
