| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 26, 2007 Sample, Portsmouth, NH Brewery. Pours a copper/amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is simple, just hops. Taste is hops with slight slight malt. I found it pretty watery and unimpressive. jbean (110), Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Bottle. Pale copper color with nice off-white head. Aroma of hops, not very strong or complex. The flavor is of hops, with a little bit of malty sweetness -- not overpowering. Feels a bit thin. puboflyons (628), New Hampshire, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2007 355 ml bottle dated 111907. Pours copper with a lot of carbonation and a generous creamy off-white head. It does not have the look of a standard English Bitter but rather that of a honey ale. The aroma is distinctively malty to me. The taste is more hoppy than malty and it feels light in my mouth. But it is not hopped up enough to be an IPA. My overall impression is that this is distinctiive and above average but not so much like most Bitters I have had. Not something I would decline in the future. DrPiva (90), Alabama, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 This was my entry in Redhoook many years ago. The draft still outshines the bottle but even it just cannot compete with many other ESB’s on the market. Why - hard to explain but tastes weak (weak malt, weak hops), just tastes watered down. Finish like many Redhooks is somewhat funky. cazort (421), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Dec 17, 2007 (Bottle) Initial aroma weird, almost unpleasant. More bitter than I expect from this style; more IPA-like. I don’t like the character of the hops at all...they are unpleasant. Like a poorly executed IPA, does not taste like a bitter/ESB. I am disappointed; Redhook is able to brew some decent beers and this one was significantly below the level of their other beers. I did not finish it. The most objectionable thing about it was that it was very heavy. The malt was nasty. This tasted pretty awful. bruno1378 (121), Epping, New Hampshire, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 17, 2007 Copper color, faint aroma. Not much head to speak of. Flavor is ok, not very bitter. not very familiar with this style so hard to compare. badfinger (55), Washington, USA
