The nose was strong with a citrusy hop punch with a faint maltiness beneth. The taste begins with citrusy bitterness and ends with raw, dry grain. Overall this was slightly stale, a little more maltiness would have made it much better. uglyblond1 (174), Nebraska, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 29, 2007 Bottle Amber. A good caramel malt aroma. The flavor is of British hops and caramel malt. The bitterness was not potent but distinctive. A substantial carbonation, much more than a typical lager. Not heavy but a well rounded ale with complex maltiness, not one dimensional. Finish was quite smooth for an ESB, but a little too sweet, hombrepalo (779), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 29, 2007 For being an Extra Special Bitter, they sure have the bitter part down. This beer is almost too much hop wise and seems to be lacking any thing to balance it out. Nasty Copper aftertaste that stay with you way too long. jodyperkins (70), Mississippi, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Poured a slightly cloudy amber without much of a head. Not much of an aroma and very weakly bitter. It was ok to drink but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have another. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 25, 2007 Bottle. Looks like a dark Hefe. Very subtle smell; it smells like unsalted almonds (after this was pointed out - or rather - suggested to me). It seems like this is a beer with bitterness that wasn’t well-developed. Perhaps, this indicates I am not a huge fan of ESBs, or perhaps it just wasn’t very great. A little watery for me, would prefer to have some more flavor to it. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2007 Honey colored with almost no head. Unique malty smell.... Almost almond like, or amaretto sweetness to it. Maybe toffee? Taste is light nuttiness, again maybe of almonds, is smooth, slightly bitter in the finish and fairly good overall. Easy drinking, with a decent amount of flavor, and I could definitely have more than 1 of these. troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 22, 2007 (Tap) Pours an amber color with a small white head. Muted malty aroma. Nicely balanced, with good caramel and some toffee notes. Crisp hops impart a dry aftertaste. Pretty basic, but not bad. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 19, 2007 Filtered, copper-amber hue with a creamy off-white top. Slight malty and metallic. Full-bodies mouth feel, but diactol is too much.
