Golden color with decent malt presence and fruity nose. Hops come through but don’t overshine.Body is a bit thin, but I find that most Redhook beers are.The best part of this beer is the middle which can be rich with sweet malt,sometimes,caramel/butterscotch-like. Can’t comment on color, but carbonation was light and flavor seemed to be less than it was a few years ago. Still a great session beer! T2Tool (352), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2007 Had on tap. Hard to tell on color as the bar was dark, but from what light I had it appeared a cloudy orangish color. Nice mallty taste to it with some bitterness in the finish. bubbleflubber (898), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Updated: Apr 27, 2008Not a bad sessionista here.... Pours a deep amber, very reminiscent of a red ale. The head is initially frothy, diminishing as the brew warms, leaving a 1mm ring on top and decent suds lace. Lots of caramel, toffee and brown sugar to the nose. The flavors follow somewhat in tow... There is a malty sweetness readily available, more so as the beer warms. The mouthfeel is medium-round, and somewhat slick, so it goes down well. The finish is a bit bready... slight biscuit notes with a mild Willamette hop dominance... this lends the spiced, earthen characteristic to the brew. Not bad, although it doesn’t seem as complex overall as I initially thought. Again, it makes for a nice session brew. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 3, 2007 Light malty flavor, semi sweet caramel notes, but the finish is mainly hollow with a slight metallic tang. Drinkable, good session beer, but there’s no "there" there. tomthompson89 (1489), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 2, 2007 I can’t even fathom a guess at how many times I’ve bought a 6-pack of this beer, drank them all, then later said, "Dang! If I would’ve taken some notes I could’ve knocked off Washington!" I think that is a solid testament to Redhook ESB’s drinkability.
Pours a deep amber (a true amber, like the kind you’d see <a href=www.ratebeer.com/><a href=http://www.kmnh.jp/guide/image2/nat04-03s.jpg encased in) topped with a cream colored head that leaves some wet lace. Aroma is a nutty pastry with milky yeasts and lemon. It has a nutty flavor as well, acheiving the perfect balance of bitter to sweet. A thick mouthfeel enhances the thick flavors. Even though this falls short of a "bitter" as I know it, it’s a superior "Irish Red" and, as such, is dangerously sessionable.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Not much of an aroma present. Pours a clear amber, with no head, and no lacing. The flavor is not as bitter as expected, but enjoyable and well balanced. Not much of a palate, but overall, an enjoyable session ale if there’s nothing else available.
