If I would’ve taken some notes I could’ve knocked off Washington!" I think that is a solid testament to Redhook ESB’s drinkability.
Pours a deep amber (a true amber, like the kind you’d see <a href=www.ratebeer.com/><a href=http://www.kmnh.jp/guide/image2/nat04-03s.jpg encased in) topped with a cream colored head that leaves some wet lace. Aroma is a nutty pastry with milky yeasts and lemon. It has a nutty flavor as well, acheiving the perfect balance of bitter to sweet. A thick mouthfeel enhances the thick flavors. Even though this falls short of a "bitter" as I know it, it’s a superior "Irish Red" and, as such, is dangerously sessionable.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Not much of an aroma present. Pours a clear amber, with no head, and no lacing. The flavor is not as bitter as expected, but enjoyable and well balanced. Not much of a palate, but overall, an enjoyable session ale if there’s nothing else available. cheapdark (2047), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Updated: Jul 16, 2007My second Red Hook. Very fresh, brewed on 12/19/06. Label is a little boring not like the one pictured here. Pours lighter brownish orange with a froth on top, no head. Smells a little sweet. Taste is like a cross between a lager and an ale. Starts off pretty gentleman-like then proceeds to give you a little bitter bite on the back of the throat. Creamy carbonation is present but much below average. Bitterness is medium strong and hangs for a while. Not as good as yards extra special but it is on par or better than ol speckled hen, #6, bass ale and Whitbread. I also had this on tap at the Coney Island in Slippery Rock lately. Maria (6323), Thisted, Denmark
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Copper-red with a moderate head. The aroma has notes of malt and fruit and the flavour has slightly malty notes of caramel, fruit and a sharp, harsh grapefruit note in the finish. mrdeath5493 (108), Arkansas, USA
