I can’t really smell anything distinct...it smells like beer. Taste is fine. It goes down smooth. Not terribly complex and I can’t really figure out what makes it "extra special". Mouthfeel is actually surprisingly creamy. Very smooth. Overall, very meh. Not terrible, not spectacular. Probably wouldn’t buy it again for awhile unless I’m in a pinch. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Golden amber pour with a white head. Malty aroma. Nice malt flavor , little bitter. Slight hop taste. Sporatic lacing on the glass. It is a heavy beer as it seems to fill you up. Bartzilla (445), San Diego, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2009 An old mainstay. Not so much these days, but I got some serious mileage from this back in the day. I’m not a huge ESB expert but I think most of them carry the same characteristic astringent hop bitterness against a relatively roasted malted background. Which is fine. ESBs, in general, aren’t my go-to style, but I liked this stuff enough in the day to give it a solid 3 rating. Good stuff that you can usually find at the supermarket or a 711, in a pinch. drjay44 (816), Salida, Colorado, USA

Really a middle of the road ESB. shawnm213 (997), South Bend, Indiana, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 5, 2009 Hazy brown orange color with a nicely formed fluffy off-white head. Aroma is muted, of fresh biscuity bready malts and some orangey citrusy hops. Flavor is identical but even less robust. Some bitterness lingers on the palate. Decent body and drinkability but this misses the mark.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2009 aroma of nearly toffee but closer to a simple bready character. flavor is nice hop bitterness and plenty of malt, great toasted character. somewhat of a nearly orange flavor. orange creeps into the nose as well, no generalized citrus, just an almost dark sweetness, caramelized even. very well balanced beer with excellent flavors on both fronts. underrated. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 17, 2009 Malty flavor. The hops stood out a bit more than the malt to me. Not bad, but I agree that Fullers is much better.
