Commercial Description:
Everything great that was ever built required a long hammer. A trusty tool used by ordinary ordinary men to make extraordinary things. Transcontinental train tracks. Impossible pipelines. Soaring skyscraper. Long Hammer IPA puts this bold spirit in a bottle. And like its namesake, it's a beer built to stand the test of time.

Bottle: Oranges dominate the aroma with some faint lemon grass and even more faint floral notes. It pours a golden-amber with a small white head that quickly fades and leaves behind sporadic lacing. The flavor starts with sweet oranges and caramel. There is some graininess in the background that is out of place. The finish has some mild piny hops and grassy hops. Overall, really lacking in the hops department. Light-medium bodied with mild carbonation and a soft mouthfeel.

Bottle, Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX. Pours a clear amber with white head, good retention. Aroma of malt and grapefruit. Flavor is very nice, nice hop and malt character, nice bitterness....Palate is med-full body with high carbonation. Overall, pretty good IPA!

12 oz bottle at Claim Jumper, Lombard. Nice, bubbly pour, yellowish creamy head. Hazy pale beer with unfiltered floaties. Nice, not heavy, hoppy smell. Taste is mostly pine hops with some citrus and a backbone of English hops. Malts are pretty light and biscuity, letting the hops be more assertive. Mouthfeel gets a little grainy further on, but hop balance stays there throughout. Except for the alphas tickling my mouth, it’s not too sticky, and goes down nicely.

On tap at Jack Johnson concert. Excellent hops and citrus (grapefruit), very similar to Founder’s IPA. Best commercial description ever! This one is under the radar.

Kind of a head scratcher on this one. Brewery has kind of a bad rep, so I try to stay impartial but I went in not expecting much. Its alot thinner and clearer than most, so that takes away big time. No malt, its all hops and yes thin. Very citrusy. At the price and ABV level it makes it feasable to buy again, but it really wastnt very good.

Draught. Pours light copper, with a small white head. Aroma is slight hops, citrus and pine. Flavor is hoppy, and has at least a little bit of malt to back it up. A little watery in the finish. Not too bad, I can’t believe Red Hook would even consider brewing a beer over 6% ABV.

Interesting beer. It pours a golden/ clear color with a very small head. It has a piney aroma with notes of hop bite, and the finish is a bit unbalanced and drags its nails down my tongue slightly. It’s ok, I’d drink it again, and respectable for a Red Hook beer.

Clear amber pour with a fizzy white head. Very light aroma of hops and citrus peel. Similar in flavor, with a bit of malt sweetness coming through. While you will never mistake this for a great IPA, it’s not bad for the six-pack type.
