Commercial Description:
Everything great that was ever built required a long hammer. A trusty tool used by ordinary ordinary men to make extraordinary things. Transcontinental train tracks. Impossible pipelines. Soaring skyscraper. Long Hammer IPA puts this bold spirit in a bottle. And like its namesake, it's a beer built to stand the test of time.

Sample @ Portsmouth, NH brewery. Pours a golden amber color with a short and barely-lingering white head. Aroma is earthy notes and citrus hops. Taste is slightly citrusy, with a slight hop bitterness and very little complexity or finish to speak of. A bit watery, and not what it could have been.

Pours a dark golden color with white head that dissipated fairly quickly. Lacing on glass was pretty nice. Aroma was of citrus hops and kind of grassy. Taste is also citrusy with grapefruit flavors definitely evident. Mouthfeel was good. This might not be the most complex IPA, but it is good IMO, I enjoyed it, and I would buy again.

Pours a clear yellow with small white head. Thin hop flavor - not much else going on here although it is drinkable.

On tap at the Bier Stube in Moline. Light orange pour. Slightly floral hop aroma. Pretty simple flavor-wise: just a bit of citrusy hops and not too much malt to back it up. A simple beer and easy to drink.

355 ml bottle dated 112007. Pours almost orange with a significant amount of carbonation and a weak off-white head. The hops aroma is immediately evident as well as something kind of floral. Kind of a watery mouth feel, which was slightly disappointing but the hops flavor was powerful, which balanced the drinking pleasure a bit. I used to shy away from IPA’s, but lately I have been getting into them more. This one is more approachable for me. Not too strong but strong enough to bring out the best of an IPA.

Poured a clear light copper color with a small white head. Floral and citrus hop is moderate. Light caramel malt underneath. Hoppy start with more floral and citrus notes. Fairly dry bitter mildly bitter finish. Light to medium bodied.

Disappointing for an IPA. I was expecting for the hops to kick in except the don’t... and fall off the palate. I’m sure this is better on draught, like most things, but I await the day to try that. Average, at best, India Pale Ale that leaves much to be desired.

Generally pleasant generic over-hopped IPA. Not too bitter, not too sweet, and for something approaching a macro brewery, it’s something better to fallback on when nothing else is available (much like a Guinness when given the choice of Bud and Coors). Granted, its one of the better Red Hook brews that I’ve has as well. (Bottle - way too many times)
