Commercial Description:
Everything great that was ever built required a long hammer. A trusty tool used by ordinary ordinary men to make extraordinary things. Transcontinental train tracks. Impossible pipelines. Soaring skyscraper. Long Hammer IPA puts this bold spirit in a bottle. And like its namesake, it's a beer built to stand the test of time.

Medium gold color. Nose of weak hops, grass, small notes of malt and flower. Flavor is of weak hops and malts as well with more noticeable flower presence. Over carbonated and very mediocre drinking.

Bottle. Pours pale gold, small white head. Aroma is malt and slight hops. Flavor was a very subdued hops and pine / citrus. Way too subdued for me. This beer would please the BMC drinkers that have never tasted an IPA, as it is not aggressive at all.

THOUGHTS: Once again an IPA that seems to miss the mark. Not much balance here. Aroma was fairly nice once it wared up a little more, but the flavor is just bad. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light to medium orange with a small white head that quickly diminished. The aroma was light to moderate caramel malt and heavy pine and citrus hops. The flavor was moderate sweetness and light bitterness. while the finish was light sweetness and heavy to harsh bitterness with an average finish, but short for the style. The flavor was mostly pine and citrus hops but flavor really dropped off as it hit the back of the mouth and throat. The light to medium body was dry with soft carbonation that was a little tingly and had a metallic finish.

pours a golden amber with a white head. hoppy & floral aroma, but not as potent as most IPAs. has an almost over-simplified smell. taste is hoppy citrus with moderate carbonation, flowers, & grass. wet. mid-heavy body. it’s really tame compared to other IPAs i’m a big fan of; it’s not as rich. not much alcohol taste. would make a good session beer, but don’t expect wonders. RE-RATE: had it aged about a month past the expiration date printed on the bottle, and the aroma was DRASTICALLY improved. flavor was a little better too, but it was really the aroma that caught my attention (strangely enough).

Bottle. Pours light golden with thick foamy head. Bitter, tainted aroma. Not pleasant on the nose. Doesnt really taste like an IPA, more like an over hopped Bud Light with a heavy yeast finsih. Didnt like it.

650 ml bottle from Bevmo. This one poured a copper-gold color with a small white head. The aroma was very weak and undistinguished with just a trace of sweet hops coming through. The flavor was weak for an IPA, there are some light malts, understated citrus, blanched walnuts, and watery hops. The mouthfeel was a bit thin and watery. The finish was sweet and slightly biter. Overall: This answers the question, "what if AB were to try to brew an IPA?" Not Recommended.

12/03/07 12 oz bottle, thanks to sav-more. Good deal on the mix pack. Have to say it was a nice smelling IPA. Piney taste and nice full head. Lacks carbonation. Overall a nice IPA.

Bottle. Moderate notes of caramel and nutty for the malt, pine for the hops and a light note of dough for the yeast with pepper in the background. Head is small, white, with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear amber. Flavor starts lightly acidic and finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, creamy with a soft to lively carbonation. It finishes a little metallic. Started off well with some good aromas, but a srtange mouthfeel and some weird aftertastes screwed this beer out of a better rating.
